Watch: Ex-federal prosecutor predicts Trump will pay 'every last penny' of $83.m defamation judgement
Former Elle Magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll's first defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump did not go well for the former president, who was ordered by a jury to pay $5 million in damages. But Carroll's second defamation case had an even worse outcome for Trump when jurors decided on an $83.3 million judgement — an amount that includes $18.3 in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive damages.
Trump and his legal team have vowed to appeal the decision. But in a late January appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Joyce White Vance predicted that Trump won't be able to avoid paying the money he now owes Carroll.
Vance told "Morning Joe" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, "So, it doesn't really matter how Donald Trump satisfies this judgement. He can get money from other places. You know, it can be $5 in donations from grandmas and grandpas across the country, I suppose. But the reality is, even though there will be an appeal — even though it may take some time — Donald Trump will pay every last penny of this money to E. Jean Carroll."

Palm Beach County, Florida State Attorney Dave Aronberg was also featured during the "Morning Joe" segment — and joined Vance in saying that Trump won't be able to escape the $83.3 million he now owes Carroll.
Aronberg told Scarborough and Brzezinski, "I agree with Joyce. I don't see him getting out of this. He's gotta post a bond just to appeal within 30 days of the judgement. And so, E. Jean Carroll will get her money at some point. He can try to get money from his supporters, but he's gotta tell them what it's for; he can't say, 'Help me with my reelection fund' and then divert the money to pay off E. Jean Carroll. That would be a crime. So, ultimately, I think she gets paid."
