Fox too scared to report the major news of Trump’s big loss

On Monday, the Supreme Court delivered a “significant loss” to President Donald Trump’s effort to federalize control over mail-in voting. Interestingly enough, while the court’s decision has been among most news outlets’ top headlines and talking points, one network has remained notably quiet about the matter. As CNN’s Brian Stelter notes, “Fox barely reported it.”

"The news broke during the 7 p.m. hour, but Laura Ingraham, a law school grad, didn’t bother to tell viewers,” writes Stelter. “Jesse Watters and Sean Hannity also ignored it, even as Hannity gravely intoned that ‘we are only 50 days away from the single most important midterm election in our lifetime.’ Fox finally mentioned the SCOTUS ruling at 11:30 p.m. — for just 45 seconds. Meanwhile, the ruling was a top story almost everywhere else. The NYT’s lead story right now highlights the fact that Trump’s ‘battle to assert control over the election process is far from finished.'"

As Stelter explains, the high court’s rejection of Trump’s plan to limit mail-in voting is a “significant loss for the president, who for years has railed against mail voting with false allegations of extensive fraud, while continuing to vote by mail himself.” This turn of events throws a major wrench into what many experts have suggested was a key part of Trump’s plan to disenfranchise Democratic voters and reject an unfavorable outcome, and he expressed his outrage at the decision in a 468-word-long social media rant.

“Republicans just got another bad decision from the United States Supreme Court,” Trump’s invective began before claiming the U.S. mail-In voting “disaster” is the “laughing stock all over the World,” and that the U.S. is “the only country that has to endure such a Nation Destroying SCAM.” This is not true. Dozens of countries allow mail-in ballots, including robust democracies like Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, and Switzerland. Trump went on to claim that “Certain Justices” are “petrified” of “crazed and depraved Democrats.” He also whined about their rejection of his tariff regime and attack on birthright citizenship, railing that his conservative appointees “are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves.” And continued in that vein for some time.

Though arguably Trump’s most important media ally throughout his political career, Fox has been on uneven terms with the president ever since it called Arizona for Joe Biden in 2020. Then the network attempted to get back into Trump’s good graces by parroting his claims of voter fraud, which resulted in Fox being hit with a defamation lawsuit in which it had to pay a nearly $800 million settlement. Ever since then, Fox anchors have noticeably tiptoed around subjects relating to Trump’s claims regarding election security, and recently it fired host and longtime Trump loyalist Maria Bartiromo for leaking company information to the White House.
