President Donald Trump reiterated on Wednesday his call to eliminate the U.S. debt ceiling, urging Congress to take bipartisan action to abolish it.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-Mass.) statement posted to the social platform X, saying he agrees with her "after all these years."
“I am very pleased to announce that, after all of these years, I agree with Senator Elizabeth Warren on SOMETHING. The Debt Limit should be entirely scrapped to prevent an Economic catastrophe. It is too devastating to be put in the hands of political people that may want to use it despite the horrendous effect it could have on our Country and, indirectly, even the World," Trump said.

"As to Senator Warren’s second statement on the $4 Trillion Dollars, I like that also, but it would have to be done over a period of time, as short as possible. Let’s get together, Republican and Democrat, and DO THIS!” the president wrote.
Warren had shared Trump's remarks on X, highlighting his longstanding support for eliminating the debt ceiling. While speaking to reporters, Trump expressed agreement with her position, noting, “I always agreed with her” on this issue, though he clarified that they hadn't discussed it directly.
“She wanted to see it terminated, gotten rid of, not being voted on every five years or 10 years, and the reason was because it’s so catastrophic for our country,” Trump said at a press conference last week.
".@realDonaldTrump and I agree: the debt limit should be scrapped to prevent an economic catastrophe," Warren noted in the post as she shared the president's comments.

In December last year, Trump strongly advocated for the elimination of the federal debt ceiling, a longstanding fiscal policy opposed by many Democrats. He argued that abolishing the debt ceiling would be "the smartest thing [Congress] could do" and expressed full support for such a move .
Trump criticized the debt ceiling as a "meaningless" concept that serves only a psychological function, suggesting that it poses unnecessary risks to the economy. He emphasized that removing the debt ceiling would prevent potential economic catastrophes associated with the uncertainty it creates.
