'He’s the constant': CNN analyst details how anxious viewers can compare Trump’s 2020 turnout to 2024

On Election Night 2024, CNN's Jake Tapper brought on elections expert John King to explain how Donald Trump was performing in 2024 compare to 2020.
King stressed that Trump needs a heavy turnout among rural voters in order to defeat Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
King explained, "This is what he needs in every state. Kentucky is a reliably red state. So, we're not expecting a contest in Kentucky…. Is Donald Trump underperforming or overperforming, since he's the constant in this election. He's been on the ballot three elections in the row."
King added that "at the moment," Trump in 2024 was "tracking Donald Trump in 2020."
King told Tapper, "Again, it might be a useless exercise as you get through the night. But sometimes, you're just looking at: How is Donald Trump doing compared to Donald Trump in past elections in the red states?"
King noted that Trump's turnout in rural counties was "down a little bit" from 2020.
As of 7:15 PM, the Associated Press had called Kentucky and Indiana for Trump and Vermont for Harris.
