Congress nixes naming Kennedy Center opera house after Melania Trump

Congress has finally unveiled its so-called "minibus" bill, which would cover funding for the remaining agencies and includes 89 pages of home-state spending projects and over 3,000 earmarks.

Punchbowl News also noted that some key things are missing from the measure.

The funding bill for the Department of the Interior decided not to rename the Kennedy Center's opera house after first lady Melania Trump. It also doesn't refer to the Kennedy Center as the Donald J. Trump-Kennedy Center.

While the White House has demanded "major spending cuts," it doesn't appear that they are included either. Punchbowl said that "it would have led to partisan blowups."

Another key piece of the congressional budget is that the bipartisan group decided to reject Trump's spending cuts.

"House Democrats said the appropriations bills leave aside roughly $163 billion in proposed cuts from the Trump administration. Instead, the bills stave off drastic spending reductions for climate research, the EPA and NASA," the report said.
