President Donald Trump is "obsessed" with building his new ballroom, according to a new report from CNN.
Trump bulldozed the East Wing of the White House to build a ballroom that, as planned, will dwarf the actual White House.
While Americans struggle with the costs of groceries and housing, Trump on Friday popped in to shop for marble, seeking the perfect stone for his ballroom, CNN reported, citing an aide familiar with the jaunt.
Trump purchased "marble and onyx at his own expense for the White House ballroom. This was a stop he made on his way to the golf course today," White House reporter Alayna Treene said.
A photo of a large flat-bed truck had sheets of what looked like tan marble and black onyx.
"Look, I think it just shows, I mean, the president is obsessed with some of this stuff," said Treene. "He's a real estate developer at heart. He's been very fixated on wanting to put his mark on the presidential ballroom. And we've seen that with a lot of other projects and cultural institutions around D.C. I mean, look at what he's been doing with the Kennedy Center."
She noted that Trump also wants his own version of the Arch de Triomphe.
"But him going there today, and the way that he's talked about wanting to redo the ballroom, wanting to be the one to pick out the type of marble and limestone to match. I mean, he's very fixated on this, on an issue that also a lot of people argue is potentially not worth the money at this point in time, when a lot of people are worried about the economy," she closed.
White House press pool reports revealed that the president stopped in Lake Worth, Florida, at a shopping center. The area boasts around a dozen different marble and tile shops that carry a broad range of stone. Based on the photo, the logo on the side of the truck appears to match Arc Stone & Tile. The store name was confirmed by CNN reporters.
The press pool indicated he was shopping for about 90 minutes before he drove to Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, which is about 15 minutes from the tile store.
