'Total disregard': Marjorie Taylor Greene to pay $100K in fines for not masking in Congress

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has denied to take up an appeal brought by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) and other far-right lawmakers who were hoping to have the Court overrule a pandemic-era rule in the House of Representatives.
But this week, as MSNBC host Jen Psaki reported, Greene and her two other appellants — Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) and Ralph Norman (R-South Carolina) — must pay the fines that then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) imposed. For Greene alone, those fines amount to more than $100,000.
"Congresswoman Greene and some of her MAGA colleagues flouted the rules over and over and over again," Psaki said. "Even while sheltering in place during the January 6 insurrection, by the way."

"As thousands of people died of Covid every day across the country, Marjorie Taylor Greene boasted about her total disregard for others' health and safety," Psaki continued, before playing a clip of Greene speaking about her insistence to not follow basic health protocols.
"I refuse to wear a mask," Greene said at the time. "I'm not vaccinated. And I will be sanding strong, standing up for the people across this country that refuse to get vaccinated."
According to the rules Pelosi put in place, members were required to wear a face mask in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first fine for non-compliance was just $500. But each subsequent violation came with a $2,500 penalty. This means Greene violated the House's mask rules roughly 50 times. The $100,000+ in fines amounts to roughly half of her annual congressional salary.
"The rules apply to you too, Marjorie Taylor Greene!" Psaki said. "Mask up or pay up!"
