Democratic strategist Kurt Bardella on Sunday tore into former President Donald Trump for insisting that his supporters send him cash and then blasted the GOP for enabling his despotic behavior.

"I mean, first of all, has anyone actually stopped to ask why is this self-professed billionaire having to raise money – five, ten bucks at a time – from the American people? Um, I, I, I mean, it, it is the, as Jennifer said, it's the ultimate grift, uh, it's the ultimate parody on life," Bardella said on The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart.

"And just look at the type of situation we have right now. Right now we have someone like Brad Paisley who just put out a song with [Ukrainian] President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy to raise money to help rebuild Ukraine. And then you have Donald Trump doing songs with January 6th prisoners –what anyone with a functioning brain would call domestic terrorists – and openly boasting about that opening as rallies with that, you know, it's this sad mix of dystopian autocratic nonsense, and there seems to be no end of it inside. And the further along the vice kind of tightens around Donald Trump, the more extreme and crazy it's going to be," Bardella added. "And all the while you have the Republican Party just singing along as background singers as part of that chorus as well, going down with the ship."
