Dick Cheney, whom CNN calls "America's most powerful modern vice president and chief architect of the 'war on terrror,'" has died at the age of 84 due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease — and MAGA faithful aren't shedding any tears.
Cheney was a polarizing figure who served alongside Republican President George W. Bush for two terms between 2001 and 2009, but it wasn't until he cast his final vote in the presidential election for Democrat Kamala Harris that he really divided people in his own party.
Cheney's vote for Harris was, CNN says, "a reflection of how the populist GOP had turned against his traditional conservatism that he really divided people in his own party."
His daughter Liz Cheney, former member of the House of Representatives, is one of Trump's most vocal and prominent Republican critics. Cheney's strong condemnation of Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his role in the January 6th Capitol attack drew ire from MAGA Republicans.
That division was seen as soon as the news broke of Cheney's death, with MAGA Republicans wasting no time in celebrating his passing.
"He went out on the bottom," posted one on X, along with a picture titled, "Kamala Harris voter Dick Cheney dead at 84."
Another wrote, "Let's remember him for the evil vile neocon war monger Harris supporter that he was."
"It's a shame he won't get to see his daughter go to prison," wrote another, referring to Trump's repeated calls for Liz Cheney to be jailed for her role in the House Jan. 6 committee investigation.
Another dug into Cheney's reputation as a "war monger," writing on X, "Former Vice President, warmonger, and Kamala Harris supporter Dick Cheney is dead at age 84. His lasting legacy will be $8 trillion squandered in Middle East wars, while proving Trump is the president of peace by endorsing Kamala."
"So Dick Cheney, the man who built his career on wars and deception, ended it by voting for Kamala Harris? No wonder the modern GOP wanted nothing to do with him. The ultimate neocon relic dying politically long before he died physically fitting end to a disastrous legacy," wrote another commenter on X.
"I'm not going to pretend that Dick Cheney was a good guy. The world, in hindsight, would've been better off if he were never born. He shamed his administration, his party, his country, and — at the end — he tried to screw over his onetime voters by handing power to Kamala Harris," posted MAGA author Joseph Ford Cotto.
