Governor Mike Braun (R-IN) has called a special legislative session to consider redrawing the state's congressional map, NBC News reports, even though he doesn't know if enough GOP lawmakers would support the redistricting effort.

Republicans currently control seven of Indiana's nine congressional districts, according to NBC News.

“I am calling a special legislative session to protect Hoosiers from efforts in other states that seek to diminish their voice in Washington and ensure their representation in Congress is fair,” Braun said in a statement.

Texas and California are in the midst of a politically-charged redistricting battle, spurred by Texas's recent move to redraw its congressional map to favor Republicans.

In retaliation, California Democrats have passed legislation to place a counter-measure on the November 2025 ballot to adopt new, partisan-drawn maps of their own. Both states are now facing legal challenges over their redistricting maneuvers.

Just last week, Molly Swigart, a spokesperson for the Indiana Republican state Senate majority, told NBC News that a redistricting measure didn’t have enough support.
