Texas State Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D-34th District) on Monday blasted Republican Governor Greg Abbott's record of loosening gun laws as the Lone Star State continues to grapple with Saturday's mass shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets.

Eight people plus the gunman were killed and seven others were injured in the attack, which marked the 199th such incident so far in 2023, Like many on the left, Gonzalez blames the loss of life on Abbott and his pro-firearm policies.

"I understand he's gonna be visiting Allen, Texas. I don't know how he's gonna explain, explain this one away," Gonzalez said of Abbott on MSNBC.

"You know, as the gentleman earlier, I am a gun lover myself. I like, you know, I grew up hunting and fishing. But we do need to have laws in place that prevent criminals and people such as this person that committed this awful act in Allen, Texas, being able to have AR and really dangerous weapons in their hands," Gonzalez added. "And we have a long way to go in the federal legislature and certainly in state legislatures across our country."
