'Wait for the audience pan': South Dakota Gov. mocked for denying NRA is mostly 'old white guys'

Republican Governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, spent a portion of her National Rifle Association (NRA) speech alleging the organization is diverse in its membership.

@Acyn shared a clip from C-SPAN of the GOP leader's speech via Twitter, writing, "Noem: The media would have us believe that the NRA is only made up of old white guys.. But there are a lot of other people. A lot of diversity in the NRA… *camera switches to audience*"

The video includes footage of the conference audience, which is filled with none other than, old white guys.

"Let me tell you something, I may be a mom and a grandma, but I am the NRA," Noem assured the audience.

A 2017 study by The Pew Research Center found:

Gun ownership is more common among men than women, and white men are particularly likely to be gun owners. Among those who live in rural areas, 46% say they are gun owners, compared with 28% of those who live in the suburbs and 19% in urban areas. There are also significant differences across parties, with Republican and Republican-leaning independents more than twice as likely as Democrats and those who lean Democratic to say they own a gun (44% vs. 20%).

Social media users were in stitches over C-SPAN's immediate visual fact-check for the governor.
