When Attorney General-designate Pam Bondi faced off with Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) during her Wednesday confirmation hearing, she failed to come up with answers for both President-elect Donald Trump's promises and even her own words.

In one particular exchange, Hirono asked Bondi directly who won the 2020 election. Bondi notably responded by saying: "Joe Biden is the president of the United States," though Hirono acknowledged that Bondi maneuvered her way out of her question. The Hawaii senator then asked Trump's pick to lead the Department of Justice whether she thought those convicted of felonies for laying siege to the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 were "hostages" and "patriots," as Trump described them.

"I am not familiar with that statement, senator," Bondi said.

"I just familiarized you with that statement," Hirono said. "Do you agree with that statement?"

"I am not familiar with it, senator," Bondi repeated.

Hirono then pivoted to the topic of whether Bondi was familiar with her own words regarding her promise that "the prosecutors will be prosecuted, the bad ones." She asked Bondi whether Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith would be prosecuted, or January 6 committee member Liz Cheney along with outgoing Attorney General Merrick Garland. Bondi again dodged the question, saying she was "not going to answer hypotheticals."

"No one has been prejudged, nor will anyone be prejudged," she said.
