President Donald Trump continues to angrily rail against New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor. Trump is attacking Mamdani as a "communist" and is urging centrist Mayor Eric Adams to drop out of the race, as he believes that Mamdani will be easier to defeat if there are fewer candidates running against him.

Mandani, however, is not a "communist," but rather, a self-described "democratic socialist" along the lines of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) — both of whom are campaigning for him. And MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, during a Wednesday, September 10 segment on "Morning Joe," argued that Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick are, in some respects, more "socialist" than left-wing Mamdani.

Scarborough stressed that when Trump and Lutnick are in favor of the federal government taking over part of a private company, that is way more "socialist" than what Mamdani is proposing for New York City.

The Never Trump conservative showed a clip of Lutnick saying, "If we fund it and they invent a patent, the United States of America taxpayer should get half the benefit."

A frustrated Scarborough told "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski, "This is just full blown-out socialism. I mean, it's even beyond that."

Scarborough recalled when Republicans attacked former President Barack Obama for pointing out that successful, affluent Americans had some help along the way.

Scarborough told Brzezinski, "You remember when Barack Obama said, you know, you didn't you didn't do it all on your own? You needed the government, we helped you? But we helped you, and you got it. Can you imagine if Barack Obama said, 'You know what? Because of that, we're going to take 10 percent here.' Are all these so-called, like capitalist billionaires, that keep trying to scam off of, of companies, off colleges — I don't know Howard, but I can't believe he is so stupid as to not understand that when we, since World War 2, gave universities that money for research, that spread out and helped."

Scarborough continued, "Whether you're talking about the internet, whether you're talking about biomedical research, whether you're talking about research on, you know, Alzheimer's, or whether you're talking about research on AI — all of these technologies, they accrue to the benefit…. of Americans. And in a capitalist society, a rising tide lifts all boats."

Scarborough, a former GOP congressman, warned that Trump and Lutnick "are talking about accumulating more power in the centralized state," adding, "It is the most socialist thing."

"(Trump is) worried about Mamdani," Scarborough told Brzezinski. "(Mamdani) is talking about grocery stores — these people are talking about taking a skim from intel, from Nvidia, from the best researchers on the planet."

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who was on the panel, agreed, interjecting, "I mean, I think you said it best: If Obama had said this, they'd be saying, 'Let's have impeachment hearings."
