Sailor punished for attempted 'unauthorized access' to Biden’s medical records: US Navy

Back in February, according to ABC News, a junior sailor enlisted in the U.S. Navy attempted to access President Joe Biden's restricted medical records.
Now, the sailor is facing administrative punishment, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Navy on Tuesday, July 9.
The statement explains, "On February 26, 2024, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Fort Belvoir was notified of an unauthorized access to medical records by an active-duty service member. A Sailor assigned to NMRTC Fort Belvoir searched the name 'Joseph Biden' in MHS Genesis, the Military Health System's electronic health record, out of curiosity."

The statement continues, "A co-worker reported the Sailor's breach of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)."
ABC News' Luiz Martinez reports that the sailor, on February 26, was searching through a U.S. government database.
Martinez did not specify the type of administrative punishment the sailor has received.
ABC News' reporting comes at a time when the 81-year-old Biden's widely criticized performance during a June 27 presidential debate with Donald Trump is raising concerns about his health. Biden has vowed to remain the race, acknowledging that he had a bad debate night but rejecting calls among some Democrats for him to drop out.
