More Republicans in Congress are pushing back on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) as she continues to blame the GOP for the ongoing government shutdown.
Politico reported Wednesday that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has joined the growing chorus of elected Republicans attacking the Georgia Republican for her assertion that Republicans have no plan to help Americans with rapidly increasing health insurance premiums. Greene sarcastically said earlier this week that she felt that she had to enter a secure compartmentalized information facility (SCIF) in order to see the GOP healthcare plan.
"Don’t spend much time worrying about [what] Marjorie is saying," Cruz said during a Wednesday interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box."
"Suddenly, Marjorie is for massive government spending and taxes and she’s for open borders and amnesty. OK. Fine," he continued. "That is not where the American people are. Where the American people are, is real simple. We’re on day 29 of the stupidest shutdown."
Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits put in place during the Covid-19 pandemic aimed at keeping insurance plans more affordable will be expiring at the end of the year without action from Congress. Greene has said that premiums for health plans her adult children currently have are scheduled to double in price in 2026, and that the health insurance industry is responsible for the "destruction of the American Dream" due to the high cost of having health insurance.
Cruz's comments come on the heels of a CNN interview with Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), who told host Kaitlan Collins on Tuesday that Greene was welcome to sponsor her own legislation if she's unhappy with her party's approach to healthcare.
"I would say to Marjorie Taylor Greene — I like her, she came out to Ohio a few times — she's certainly able to write a bill herself," he said. "Like, if this is something she's passionate about, put pen to paper, write a bill, present an option. Don't just criticize what other people are doing."
