Watch: Rep. Raskin slams McCarthy for giving 'pro-Putin, pro-autocrat' Tucker Carlson Jan. 6 footage

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) joined a segment of Joy Reid's The Reid Out to discuss House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) decision to hand over more than 41,000 hours of Jan. 6 security footage to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, MSNBC reports.
Reid opened the segment noting the footage landing in the hands of Carlson "cannot be in America's best interest," and Raskin made his case for why he agrees with her statement.
"Tucker Carlson is a pro-Putin, pro-Orbán, pro-autocrat propogandist," the Maryland congressman said. "So, while we got the president of the United States over in Ukraine expressing solidarity with the forces of Democratic freedom," we also have McCarthy "releasing the tapes to only one network so that he can forward his propoganda."

Reid, in agreement, mentioned the "danger" Americans may face as a result of Fox News' attempts to "twist the footage" in efforts to get convicted Jan. 6 rioters "out of jail." She also noted her concern that Carlson is someone "the Russians listen to."
The congressman highlighted that McCarthy's decision poses a "serious security risk" to the Capitol building, adding McCarthy's move "demonstrates the absolute stranglehold that the MAGA right are exercising over" him, such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), "as they work overtime to try to put Donald Trump back in office."
Noting the move is "out of Putin's playbook," Raskin contends if McCarthy made footage "available to one network, he may as well make it available to all network," as Fox News will "cherrypick" which clips are shared to push far-right messaging.
NPR reports Fox News attorneys have suggested viewers "should not believe" anything Carlson says.
