CNN’s Kasie Hunt on Tuesday cornered Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) over former President Donald Trump’s claim that the United States of America is “a declining nation,” bluntly asking the South Carolina congressman too name a country he considers “greater” than the U.S.

Hunt noted Trump’s campaign stumps have largely denigrated the United States, explaining the former president has campaigned on the platform “that America is a declining nation.” The CNN host then played a clip of Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) defending the U.S. against Trump’s attacks.

“All [voters] hear from Donald Trump is a whole bunch of whining about this country,” Shapiro told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Monday. “So I got a message to Donald Trump and all his negativity and his whining. Stop s***-talking America. This is the greatest country on earth, and it's time that we all start acting like it.”

Turning to Norman, Hunt pressed the Republican congressman on his patriotism.

“I’m going to say, sir, I'm a patriotic American,” Hunt began. “Does [Shapiro] have a point?”

Norman, in response, argued Trump “is exactly right.”

“Look at what's happening in this country,” Norman said. “Talk to the average voter out there who is very upset with inflation. They're very upset with the 13 to 15 million illegals coming into this country.”

Hunt asked Norman if he would still consider the U.S. “the greatest country on Earth.”

“We are in the rapid decline,” Norman said. “It's not anymore after three-and-a-half years of this [Joe] Biden Administration.”

“Which country would you say is greater than the United States of America?” Hunt asked.

“Well, unless we get our financials in order, unless we stop printing money, we cannot continue what we have been in the past, which is a shining city on a hill," Norman said before claiming Biden is “breaking the constitution” and “destroying the values in this country.”

Hunt ended the interview, but not before pointing out that Norman failed to give the name of a country he considers greater than the United States.
