'Oscar-winning edit': John Oliver lauds C-SPAN's 'brutal' cutaway to all-white NRA audience

HBO host John Oliver had a field day on Sunday's edition of Last Week Tonight over the racial homogeneity of the attendees at the National Rifle Association's annual conference in Indianapolis, Indiana last Friday.
"The NRA held his annual convention at which South Dakota Governor Christie Noem tried desperately to dispel stereotypes about the group only to be undercut by a brutal cutaway," Oliver recalled.
"The media would have us believe that the NRA is only made up of old white guys. But there's a lot of other people, a lot of diversity within the NRA. Well, let me tell you something. I may be a mom and a grandma, but I am the NRA," Noem said.

The C-SPAN cameraman filming the event immediately showed the audience – which was entirely white.
"That's an Oscar-winning edit right there. Nothing undermines her point better than the cutaway proving the diversity in that crowd rage you somewhere between Antiques Roadshow and Friends Reunion," Oliver quipped. "That looks like a version of Guess Who? that's just, 'Oops, all Peter.'"
