'A relic of a different time': GOP strategist says Mike Pence would not 'be safe' at a Trump rally

A GOP strategist says former vice president Mike Pence, who once was praised by dedicated supporters of Donald Trump, likely "could not go to a Trump rally and be safe," reports Insider.
Once praised by staunch conservatives, Sarah Longwell says Pence would now be “largely unwelcome” to any rally by the same people who once championed him. Politico describes him as “politically isolated.”
A former trusted advisor and close friend of Trump, the previous governor of Indiana lost his appeal to many of his supporters when he refused to support Trump’s claim of election fraud in 2020.

After conducting about 100 GOP focus groups over the past two years, Longwell described the general result from voters towards Pence as “meh.” Insider reports that she called him "a relic of a different time.”
In a recent analysis of Pence’s current reputation in the politics, Politico reports “those who know Pence best say he is wrestling with how to recalibrate himself to a Republican base that hasn’t yet forgiven him for refusing Trump’s pressure to overturn the election results — and maybe never will.”
Regarding Pence’s and Trump’s relationship, a friend of Pence’s told Politico “[Pence] would love to be reconciled to the president. My sense is he’s seen that window close.”
As he considers throwing his hat in the ring for the 2024 presidential election, Pence’s friend said, “I think he’s got to decide whether he wants to be a Jim-Baker-like statesman that can just always be principled and speak the truth for the rest of his life, with no calculation of political cost. Or do you want to get the nomination?”
