Late-night host Seth Meyers had a field day poking fun at President Trump's cognitive abilities after the president made the bizarre claim that his uncle invented radar. The comedian took the opportunity to turn Trump's brags about his intelligence into a joke.
The Late Night host mocked the 80-year-old president in his opening monologue after Trump made the questionable claim while speaking to reporters following his early vote in Florida on Saturday.
"While speaking to reporters, on Saturday after voting, President Trump said that his uncle invented radar. And you know what that means. Time to ace another cognitive exam!" Meyers said, as his audience laughed.
The joke was a reference to Trump's constant claims about acing cognitive tests, which he says proves his mental fitness.
Trump made the false claim while speaking to the press that his uncle, John G. Trump, invented radar.
"My uncle invented radar. Can you believe it?" said Trump. He then went on to say that his late uncle would probably have been angry with him over the US strikes on Iran’s radar systems.
While his uncle was a highly respected MIT professor who had worked on radar during World War II, he didn't invent it.
Meyers also mocked Trump about an “award” he received during a recent campaign appearance in Iowa after losing out on the Nobel Peace Prize for the second time.
"During a rally last week in Iowa, President Trump was awarded the Man of the Century award. Okay, that's not a real award. And that's coming from someone who hosted the Golden Globes," Meyers told his audience.
The comedian explained that Republican congressional candidate Joe Mitchell had actually invented the award himself prior to presenting it to the president.
"Sorry, that's the award... for being the best man of the whole century? That looks like he graduated from an eight-week computer class at night school," Meyers quipped before impersonating Trump, saying, "I learned how to code."
The comedian then moved on to another odd Trump comment about New Mexico.
"During a rally on Friday in Florida, President Trump said that he wanted to change the name of New Mexico to New America," Meyers said, continuing, "Dude, you can't call it New America when it's in America. Do you think that Rome has a neighborhood called Little Italy?"
President Trump is still on the campaign trail, and his bizarre behavior during speeches is renewing questions about his mental fitness. His physical appearance has also caused concern, as it appears the busy schedule is taking its toll.
