'Hope she gets help': McCarthy says GOPer who ousted him needs to 'straighten out her life'

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) may no longer be in Congress, but he's not finished criticizing the Republicans who led the push to strip him of the speaker's gavel.
On Tuesday, Daily Beast congressional reporter Reese Gorman tweeted an off-the-cuff remark from McCarthy attacking Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), who was one of the eight Republicans who voted with all Democrats to oust him as speaker in October of 2023.
"I just hope she gets help to straighten out her life. I mean, she she's got a lot of challenges. No one will stay working for her," McCarthy said, in an apparent reference to the congresswoman's difficulty keeping staff.

In December, the Washington Examiner reported on a sudden exodus of staff from Mace's office, in which chief of staff Don Hanlon, deputy chief of staff Richard Chalkey and legislative director Randal Meyer all left in the span of just a few days. Hanlon reportedly even took the office popcorn machine with him after he was fired. Hanlon is now officially running against Mace in the Republican primary for her district.
Mace also made headlines for various antics in the halls of Congress, like wearing a "scarlet letter" to cast herself as a martyr for being one of a small handful of Republicans to be singled out for triggering a weeks-long battle to elect a new speaker, and for screaming "you have no balls" at President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, during a House Oversight Committee hearing. The Washington Post also reported that Mace — who is now one of former President Donald Trump's biggest defenders — tried to get punched in the face by Trump supporters on January 6 to garner media coverage for being an anti-Trump Republican.
In addition to his comments about Mace, McCarthy also took a jab at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), who was the instigator of the motion to vacate that led to his eventual ouster.
"[Gaetz] probably lies about who he sleeps with to," McCarthy told Gorman.
