As Sen. Krysten Sinema (I-Ariz.) continues her efforts to distance herself from the Democratic Party, one Arizona lawmaker is making it his mission to unseat the centrist lawmaker.

According to Newsweek, Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) — a lawmaker who has publicly expressed disapproval of Sinema — is now planning to announce his Senate campaign to run for Sinema's seat.

Per the news outlet: "Gallego, the chair of BOLD PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, plans to make the announcement via a video in English and Spanish that was shot in his home district, which includes parts of Phoenix, according to three sources briefed by the campaign."

The report went on to offer a breakdown of what's to come for Gallego as he kicks off his Senate run.

"After his announcement, Gallego is set to begin a media blitz before returning to Arizona for an in-state tour of events for which the campaign is presently nailing down logistics," Newsweek reports. "Along with consultants, the campaign has also hired some initial staff."

In the wake of Gallego's announcement, activists and grassroots organizations are already throwing their support behind his mission. In fact, Alejandra Gomez, Sinema critic and co-executive director of LUCHA Arizona, recently lauded the state representative for stepping up to the plate.

"Gallego has time and again demonstrated that he's ready to govern and ready to move forward an agenda for communities by granting them meetings and giving them access," Gomez said.
