Jenna Ellis was among the Donald Trump attorneys who, critics say, disgraced the legal profession after the 2020 presidential election by promoting the Big Lie. Ellis joined Sidney Powell, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and other Trump lawyers in falsely claiming that the election was stolen from Trump through widespread voter fraud — a claim that has been repeatedly debunked.

In March, however, Ellis accepted censure from the Colorado Supreme Court. A legal document in the People of the State of Colorado v. Jenna Lynn Ellis notes that Ellis, representing Trump's reelection campaign, "repeatedly made misrepresentations on national television and on Twitter, undermining the American public’s confidence in the 2020 presidential election." Ellis, as part of censure, has walked back her bogus claims of 2020.

But despite the extremes that Ellis went to on Trump's behalf in 2020, she is now — according to Daily Beast reporter Zachary Petrizzo — persona non grata in Trumpworld. Her offense, Petrizzo says, is being too friendly with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"Jenna Ellis, who served as a senior Trump legal adviser after the 2020 election, is the latest Republican to play both sides and get burned," Petrizzo explains in an article published by the Beast on April 19. "She has carefully been trying to navigate the two power bases of the modern GOP, tweeting nice things about Trump and DeSantis while also trying to maintain friendships in both camps. But in Trumpworld — where loyalty seems to mean complete devotion to Trump — Ellis is getting more than a taste of the wrath of the former president’s diehard supporters."

Trump has been angrily railing against DeSantis, who appears to be gearing up for a presidential run even though he has yet to make an official announcement. And some of Trump's allies, according to Petrizzo, resent Ellis for attending a DeSantis event.

A Trumpworld source, interviewed on condition of anonymity, told the Beast, "It all started when she went to a DeSantis event at Doral and made it a point to post pictures of herself with his social media influencers, almost like she was trying to rub it in. Now, she's regretting her transgressions. F*** around and find out."

A Trump adviser, also quoted anonymously by Petrizzo, said of Trump and Ellis, "He thinks she's a terrible lawyer. He's very down on her. He thinks now he has great lawyers. She wasn't one of them."

Petrizzo notes that one of Trump's supporters, consultant Alex Bruesewitz, has been slamming Ellis on Twitter and posted an image of adult film star Stormy Daniels' face "superimposed onto Ellis' body."

Ellis, according to Petrizzo, acknowledges that some Trump allies have turned against her.

The far-right attorney told the Beast, "If people around (Trump) are so desperate (that) they want to try to ice me out for perceived lack of loyalty, have at it. Loyalty is a two-way street. I declined to work for the Trump 2024 campaign and in other capacities. I'm principled, so I won’t participate in the false attacks against the best Republican governor in the country. I like Gov. DeSantis, and I like President Trump. But only one side is calling me a porn star and won't denounce sexual harassment. I don't think this strategy will ultimately help Trump."

Some DeSantis supporters, including author and right-wing firebrand Ann Coulter, view him as the GOP's best chance to move on from Trump in 2024. Coulter, once a Trump supporter, is now a scathing critic.

Ellis, unlike Coulter, isn't openly slamming Trump. But the very fact that she is saying nice things about DeSantis is, according to Beast sources, problematic in Trumpworld.

Petrizzo observes, "Ellis seems to have triggered Trumpworld for a variety of reasons. For one, those in Trump's orbit point to her backtracking when it comes to claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election, which many of Trump's lieutenants — and the former president himself — continue to falsely push. For another, there's just a perceived lack of 'loyalty,' multiple sources said. Speaking highly of DeSantis seems to be just as bad as talking ill of Trump."
