U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has been tasked with a new probe into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, but one CNN commentator suggested she resign instead.

Pirro doesn't have a good track record of winning controversial cases in Washington, D.C., losing several grand jury cases against protesters who opposed federal agents.

Trump has been attacking Powell for years after Powell refused to cut interest rates.

Speaking to the morning show, S.E. Cupp said she hopes the opposition to Trump from Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) doesn't stop with him.

"Listen, the credibility of the DOJ under Trump was already hanging by a thread," Cupp said. "When you look at its activism, its political activism to Letitia James and James Comey, and then its failure to do its job on [Jeffrey] Epstein. It was already, already really hanging by a thread. If you want to destroy what shred of credibility the DOJ has left, go ahead and indict a Fed chair for failing to raise interest rates. I can't think of anything more preposterous."

"And if I worked at the DOJ in particular for Pirro, I would resign. I'd walk out to preserve what integrity I had left," Cupp suggested.
