'Cruz curse': Houston Astros fans beg Texas senator not to attend game 7 of ALCS

The winner of tonight's game 7 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers will play in the World Series. And Houston's fans desperately hope Houston resident and Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) won't be in attendance.
When Cruz attended game 1 of the ALCS, the Astros — who are also the defending World Series champions — were shut out 2-0 at Houston's Minute Maid Park.
"AND THE CRUZ CURSE CONTINUES," one Houston fan posted on X in response to the Texas senator's selfie in front of the Houston dugout.

Cruz also attended game 2 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) between the Astros and the Minnesota Twins. The Twins went on to win that game 6-2. Notably, the game Cruz attended was the only game of the series the Astros lost.
"i do not like getting into politics on my meme accounts, but somebody PLEASE tell the senator to stay HOME," X user @astrosmemes posted on Monday.
The supposed "Cruz curse" isn't limited to baseball: Houston's other professional sports teams have also suffered postseason losses when Ted Cruz is in the stands. In 2018, the Golden State Warriors routed the Houston Rockets 101-92 at downtown Houston's Toyota Center in game 7 of the NBA's Western Conference playoffs (the Warriors went on to win the NBA finals).

Whether it's for political reasons or because of the "Cruz curse," Texas' junior US senator is typically not well-received by Houston sports fans. During the Houston Astros' victory parade following their 2022 World Series championship, one fan was arrested after throwing a beer can at Cruz while fans booed the senator. In a tweet, Cruz thanked both Houston police and Capitol police for apprehending the beer thrower, adding "the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm."
Game 7 of the ALCS will begin at approximately 8pm Eastern Time.
