'Faked being Jewish': George Santos scorned for defending Ilhan Omar's ouster from House committee

Shortly after the Republican majority in the United States House of Representatives voted to oust Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) from the Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday, embattled freshman Representative George Santos (R-New York) defended the GOP's controversial action.
"Mr. Speaker, today I rise to congratulate my colleagues on voting to remove Representative Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee. The passage of HR 76 sends a strong message that we support Israel and the Jewish community," Santos said.
"I urge the 118th Congress to now stand together, proudly upholding every single American, no matter race, pedigree, religion, nor creed, as any less American than their neighbor, that Jewish Americans are patriotic Americans, and that we all have a role in fighting bigotry and antisemitism in our country," he added. "We must make sure that the House of Representatives reflects such principles as a united body. I yield back."
Santos's remarks sparked swift backlash on social media, due to the scores of reports that he lied about his personal and professional background during the 2022 campaign. But most of the blowback stemmed from his false statements about having "Jew-ish" heritage and grandparents who fled Ukraine during the Holocaust.
Aaron Parnas: "This is rich coming from the person who faked being Jewish and lied about his grandparents being Holocaust survivors."
Aaron Rupar: "Santos getting up and speaking on the House floor like he's a normal member of Congress will never not be deeply weird"
Eric Columbus: "Santos, who pretended to be Jewish to win office, claims that removing Omar was a show of support for 'the Jewish community,' but actual Jews voted against removal 19 to 2."

greg: "Didn't George Santos lie about being Jewish?"
Pádraig Ó Séaġḋa: "This is just gross."
Dr. Ryan A. Starzyk: "Ha! He’s a pathological LIAR & claimed to be Jewish. Well @Santos4Congress, I AM Jewish & don’t appreciate deceit! @IlhanMN is an honorable member of Congress & I fully forgive her. Mistakes happen. You being elected was a BIG mistake. Omar will ALWAYS be better than you."
BruceGoldberg: "If Santos wanted to support the Jewish community, he'd resign immediately."
Claire Goforth: "Jew-ish serial liar has thoughts"
...STEVE...: "I’m always amused how Republicans like to say they’re in support of Israel & the Jewish people while at the same time having quite a few conservatives among their base who are adamantly anti-Semitic and who promote hateful rhetoric. Far more than the Democrats they tend to blame."
joled: "That George Santos would even dare to speak about his 'support' for the Jewish community after exploiting them so shamelessly is beyond belief. This performance would have been better on SNL than in the House of Congress!"
nottherealtraceydelany: "Can you even imagine the GOP reaction if Ilhan Omar had done a George Santos & falsely claimed to be a gay, straight, Jewish, Christian, Belgian, Brazilian volley-ball champion & brain cancer survivor, whose ancestors survived the Holocaust & whose mother died twice?"
Lonesome Erster: "@HouseGOP: "This is appalling. Why is this man, an admitted liar, still in Congress, let alone allowed to address the House?"
Kyla in the Burgh: "Republicans give Paul Gosar committee assignments after making videos of himself stabbing AOC & reward George Santos with committees after scamming a disabled vet & fabricating his entire life. Then, they removed Ilhan Omar from committees just for being Muslim. We see you, GOP."
