Retired astronaut explains how Trumps relationship with Musk 'is potentially dangerous'

After being a major donor to Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, billionaire Elon Musk — CEO of X (formerly Twitter), Tesla and SpaceX — will head a new federal U.S. government agency, the Department of Efficiency, along with MAGA businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
Musk has become one of the president-elect's top allies, spending a lot of time at Mar-a-Lago and raising questions about possible conflicts of interest.
According to retired astronaut Scott Kelly, this Trump/Musk alliance "is potentially dangerous."

During a Tuesday, November 19 appearance on CNN, Kelly — the twin brother of Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) — told host Kaitlin Collins, "Certainly, there's a lot of potential, I think, for conflict of interest when you have a guy like Elon Musk who's involved in so many companies, so many different kinds of technology companies, also working in the U.S. government as the head of an organization that is going to decide which, you know, things we keep and which ones we throw away."
Scott Kelly continued, "So, you know, on one hand, Elon is an incredible engineer, incredibly talented, and does some amazing things. On the other hand, this — I don't think it passes the smell test very well."
When Collins asked the retired astronaut how "worried" he was about the potential for "conflicts of interest" in the Musk/Trump alliance, he responded, "Very worried."
Scott Kelly told Collins, "I mean, he could potentially control, you know, NASA's budget, what NASA does and does not do. In some cases, NASA — and I think SpaceX, or whatever Elon wants to do, could be in conflict with NASA's mission. And for him to have, I think, the power — and have the future president kind of beholden to him — is potentially dangerous for the organization."
