A contentious House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday briefly devolved into chaos following a surprise appearance by President Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

In the midst of the commotion, chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky) called the committee into recess in an attempt to restore order. While members waited for the bedlam to cease, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida) used his seat to display a blown-up photo of former President Donald Trump posing next to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"We had to pause committee because Marjorie Taylor Greene is being unhinged," tweeted Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Florida). "While we wait, @JaredEMoskowitz is holding this up."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

New details have emerged about Trump's connections to the wealthy pedophile since the release of Epstein-related materials from a civil lawsuit involving Epstein's former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, who groomed his victims. In one deposition, an Epstein victim testified that while Trump never received massages from the girls Epstein trafficked, he did often have dinner with Epstein at his home.

Trump and Epstein were friends for years before a falling out in the 2000s. However, the ending of the friendship reportedly had nothing to do with the financier's proclivities for underage girls. According to Epstein's brother, Mark, Jeffrey Epstein was the one who cut off the friendship after realizing that Trump was a "crook." Business Insider reported that Mark viewed a clip of an interview his brother had with former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon in which he said he distanced himself from Trump due to his reputation as a shady businessman.

Epstein died in 2019 while awaiting trial in a jail cell. A New York medical examiner's report found that Epstein died by suicide from hanging. The facts surrounding Epstein's death are the subject of numerous conspiracy theories, given that his cellmate was transferred out the day before his death, the two men tasked with guarding him left him alone and that there was no video available of Epstein's hanging despite multiple surveillance cameras in the vicinity.

For her part, Ghislaine Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for child sex trafficking.
