Top KY law enforcement official holds rally touting support from politician facing 91 felony counts

Kentucky Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron is banking on the endorsement of former President Donald Trump — who is currently defending himself against 91 felony indictments — to carry him across the finish line in Tuesday's gubernatorial election.
On Monday, Cameron tweeted that Trump would be attending a tele-rally at 9 pm ET, "to directly ask the working men and women of Kentucky to support this historic campaign."
That tele-rally is notably being held the same day the 45th president of the United States took the witness stand in an ongoing civil fraud trial, where New York Attorney General Letitia James is accusing him of falsely inflating the value of his real estate assets and is seeking $250 million in damages.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?
That trial is merely the first of many in which the former president will potentially be held accountable in the courts. Trump is set to undergo four criminal trials in three separate jurisdictions in 2024 and could face well over 100 years in prison if convicted on all counts. The charges range from allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, obstructing Congressional proceedings in Washington, DC on January 6, falsifying business records in New York and improperly handling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida among other charges.
Cameron has nonetheless made Trump's endorsement a centerpiece of his campaign. The attorney general and his allies have spent more than $21 million on ads according to NBC News, including on a final push of ads touting Trump's support. The first words of Cameron's bio on X (formerly Twitter) are "Trump-endorsed," and his timeline on the platform is full of constant reminders of Trump's backing.
"I'm proud to be the only candidate in the race for Kentucky governor endorsed by both Donald Trump and the NRA," Cameron tweeted Monday, linking to an interview he gave to far-right website Breitbart.
Despite Kentucky's status as a deep-red state that went for Donald Trump over Joe Biden by a 25.9% margin, incumbent Democratic Governor Andy Beshear remains popular. In July, Morning Consult found Beshear was the most popular Democratic governor in the United States, and fourth-most popular governor overall. Beshear even registered 50% support from Kentucky Republicans, making him the most well-liked governor in all 50 states among supporters of the opposing party. According to an Emerson poll released late last week, Beshear and Cameron are in a dead heat. Kentucky voters go to the polls on Tuesday.
