'Marxist, fascist, communist': Damning supercut shows Trump repeating rhetoric Vance claims to oppose

After Donald Trump survived an apparent second assassination attempt on Sunday, September 15, the former president's running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), was quick to blame Democrats — including Vice President Kamala Harris. Democratic attacks on Trump, Vance claimed, are encouraging violence against Trump, and he demanded they "tone down the rhetoric."

But in fact, both Harris and President Joe Biden vehemently condemned the attempted violence. And many Vance critics, from Democrats to Never Trump conservatives, accused him of "gaslighting" and pointed out that Trump has a long history of incendiary rhetoric.

During a Tuesday night, September 17 broadcast, CNN's Abby Phillip aired a supercut video that showed Trump repeatedly using the type of rhetoric Vance claims to oppose.

Phillip showed a clip of Vance declaring, "Look, we can disagree with one another. We can debate one another, but we cannot tell the American people that one candidate is a fascist, and if he's elected, it is going to be the end of American democracy."

But that clip was followed by a montage of inflammatory comments from Trump.

In one of them, Trump says, "It's a choice between communism and freedom." And in another speech, the former president says, "This is communist, this is Marxist, this is fascist."

Another clip shows Trump saying, "This is radical-left Marxist communist fascism." Trump, in CNN's video, also says of Harris, "She's a Marxist, she's a fascist."

The Daily Beast's Sean Craig observes, "Have Democrats called Trump a threat? Yes. On 'CBS Sunday Morning' in August, Biden called Trump a 'genuine danger to American security.' Harris has repeatedly called him 'a threat to our democracy,' and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, asked, at a July 27 appearance, 'Are they a threat to democracy? Yes. Are they going to take our rights away? Yes.' At the same appearance, Walz even alluded to Republicans as 'fascists' who “depend on fear."

Craig adds, "So, if Vance's claim that politicians need to 'tone down the rhetoric' is to be heeded, he may need to speak to his running mate, who has used the very talking points he has condemned, for months and more frequently than his opponents."
