'Nothing is not an option': Biden asks GOP to either serve 'Trump or the American people'

President Joe Biden is issuing an ultimatum to Republican lawmakers: Either pass laws to help their districts and constituents, or do nothing in service of former President Donald Trump.
Biden's ultimatum is a response to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and other Republicans who are threatening to kill the bipartisan border security legislation currently being hashed out in the US Senate. Even though Sen. James Lankford (R-Oklahoma) has been working for several weeks on the details of the legislation with Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona), far-right Republicans are hesitant to even consider a vote on the bill, given Trump's repeated calls to oppose the bill.
"Doing nothing is not an option. Republicans have to decide, who do they serve? Donald Trump, or the American people?" Biden said on Tuesday. "Are they here to solve problems, or just weaponize those problems for political purposes? I know my answer. I serve the American people."

Earlier this month, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) blasted his GOP colleagues for threatening to tank the bill, saying they were doing so out of a desire to let Trump take credit for border security in January of 2025 should he win the presidential win in November. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina) shared a similar viewpoint, adding that it was "parallel universe s---" to assume Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) was taking cues from Trump on how to handle border negotations.
"It is immoral for me to think you look the other way because you think this is the linchpin for President Trump to win," Tillis said.
In addition to roughly $14 billion for enhanced border security, the $118 billion legislation would include additional funding to assist Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russian incursion against its own borders. The bill also appropriates funding for Taiwan to shore up its own defenses against China, and money for Israel as it continues its ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
However, even more conservative members of the House Republican Conference are wary of the GOP majority's inability to pass significant legislation. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) said last week that not passing a border security bill when many Republicans ran on doing so would upset constituents.
