Joe Biden's Armageddon warning was 'accurately reflecting' the 'high stakes' in Ukraine: Pentagon spox

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Sunday's edition of This Week on ABC that President Joe Biden's comments about possible atomic "Armageddon" were appropriate as Russian President Vladimir Putin's military faces ongoing losses in his war of aggression in Ukraine.
“We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis,” Biden said at a private fundraiser in New York City on Thursday. “I don't think there's any such thing as the ability to easily (use) a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.”
Correspondent Martha Raddatz noted that Biden "has never said anything quite as stark as this" and asked Kirby whether he agreed that "we are facing a potential nuclear Armageddon."

Biden "was reflecting the very high stakes that are in play right now, Martha. When you have a modern nuclear power and the leader of that modern nuclear power willing to use irresponsible rhetoric the way that Mister Putin has – several times in just the last week or two – as well as the high tensions in Ukraine over just the course of the last few days," Kirby explained. "So the president I think was accurately reflecting that the stakes are very high right now."
