Abortion rights foe Matt Gaetz defends 'choice' in presidential primaries

United States Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) said on Monday that former President Donald Trump's odds of securing the 2024 Republican presidential nomination would increase if he is forced to take on and defeat multiple primary challengers.
"Well, I think Donald Trump's gonna run for president again and I think he's going to win. But this may surprise a few people. I actually think it doesn't serve Donald Trump well to be coronated in a Republican primary," Gaetz told the Right Side Broadcasting NetworkI actually think he'll be a better president again and a better general election candidate if we have a raucous and enthusiastic primary with people who test [former] President Trump and challenge him on his views because I know he can take it. I know he can go through 'em like a hot knife through butter."
Gaetz then claimed that he is "pro-choice for the voter," in spite of his record of being staunchly opposed to reproductive freedom.

"I think there's something good for the voter if we have choices," Gaetz proclaimed. "I'm always pro-choice for the voter in terms of selecting from a wide array of candidates."
Gaetz added that "a good, fun primary will be a nice tune-up for Donald Trump. I think he'll be back in the White House and America will be back on track."
