United States Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday took aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci – President Joe Biden's top medical adviser – after Fauci expressed "concern" over a right-wing judge striking down the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's mask mandate on public transportation.

District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida ruled earlier this week that the CDC overstepped its constitutional authority by requiring travelers to cover their faces on planes, trains, and buses. Mizelle was appointed to the bench in 2020 by then-President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, the Biden Administration announced that it would appeal Mizelle's decision, which has been widely panned as wrong and short-sighted.

Fauci, who led the nation's charge against COVID-19, revealed on Thursday that he agrees with that assessment.

"This is a public health issue, and for a court to come in, and if you look at the rationale for that, really, it's not particularly firm," Fauci explained to CNN's Kasie Hunt.

"We are concerned about that, about courts getting involved in things that are unequivocally public health decisions," Fauci added. "This is a CDC issue. It should not have been a court issue."

Voices on the right, meanwhile, have lauded Mizelle's order as a victory for freedom and a welcomed ding to Biden. On Thursday afternoon, Cruz alleged that Fauci was upset because he was unable to "control everything."

Fauci does not work for the CDC. But he did call for Cruz to be held accountable for his role in the January 6th, 2021 Capitol insurrection.

"Emperor Fauci has spoken: 'Screw the law! I should control everything!!!'" Cruz tweeted.

Cruz was quickly reprimanded by sentient Twitter users who understand that a) public health affects everyone and b) Cruz is full of it.
