United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) tore into House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) as a "liar and a traitor" on Sunday's edition of CNN's State of the Union.

Host Dana Perino had asked Warren to remark on the recently-revealed recordings of McCarthy telling Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) that he intended to ask former President Donald Trump to resign in the immediate wake of the January 6th, 2021 Capitol insurrection. That never actually happened, and McCarthy lied to the American people about having discussed it.

"Kevin McCarthy is a liar and a traitor," Warren riposted. "This is outrageous, and that is really the illness that pervades the Republican leadership right now, that they said one thing to the American public and something else in private."

Warren also blasted McCarthy and his Trump-loyal GOP colleagues for indulging Trump's deluded grievances about the 2020 election.

"They understand that it is wrong. What happened – an attempt to overthrow our government – and that the Republicans instead want to continue to try to figure out how to make the 2020 election different instead of spending their energy on how it is that we go forward in order to build and economy; in order to make this country better for the people who send us to Washington," Warren said. "Shame on Kevin McCarthy."
