In 2022, it hasn’t been hard to find MAGA Republicans who were happy to defend or praise Russian President Vladimir Putin — a list that ranges from Fox News’ Tucker Carlson to “War Room” host Steve Bannon to former President Donald Trump. Arch-conservative Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming has even described Putin’s Republican defenders as the “Putin wing of the GOP.”

But Rep. Lauren Boebert, known for promoting far-right conspiracy theories and echoing QAnon talking points, implied that President Joe Biden is being compromised by Russia during a March 31 speech on the House floor. And Boebert, who had no proof to back that up, is being called out on social media.

Attacking Biden’s interest in green energy, the Colorado congresswoman said, “We know that American natural gas is 42% cleaner than Russian gas. So, it’s not for environmental reasons. But maybe there’s another reason we don’t know about. Perhaps there’s 10% in this tucked away for the big guy.”

Boebert’s comments come at a time when U.S./Russia relations, under Biden, are the worst they’ve been since the days of the Soviet Union and Biden is imposing tough economic sanctions against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine.

When MAGA Republicans claim that Biden is compromised by a foreign government, they usually claim that it’s Ukraine — which, Bryan Tyler Cohen notes on Twitter, is a common anti-Biden claim in Trumpworld:

Some Twitter users have pointed out that Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has a steel mill in Boebert's state:
