Some things just have to be witnessed to be believed.

Former United States Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday accused liberals of wanting the nation to fall under authoritarian control. In an interview with CNN, Barr claimed that progressives – not right-wingers who are actively stifling free speech and curtailing voting rights – are the people that are aiming to destroy democracy.

Barr also opined that the GOP is doomed if it picks former President Donald Trump to be its nominee in 2024.

"From my standpoint, the progressive left is sort of showing sort of a 'totalitarian temperament and I think the Republicans can win a decisive majority," Barr told CNN's Jake Tapper. "But I don't think we can do it with Trump. He's too divisive a candidate."

Continuing on, Barr proclaimed that Trump had absolutely nothing to do with Russia's interference in the 2020 election, despite all the evidence to the contrary laid out in

"Yes, the Russians tried to influence our election. They did it mainly through a hack and dump," Barr said.

He then said that Trump's opponents attempted to "drive him from office," presumably referring to the two impeachment proceedings - neither of which had anything to do with Russia.

"That was the influence and they tried to affect the election in some way and that was bad," said Barr. "But that doesn't mean that Trump was involved in that and that's appropriate to try to lump him into that to hurt him politically and ultimately try to drive him from office."

Recall that ex-Special Counsel Robert Mueller's 2019 report on the matter came to a much different conclusion.
