George Conway predicts Garland’s Jan. 6 probe will lead to more indictments — including Mark Meadows

Some liberals and progressives have been highly critical of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland for not having a more aggressive response to the January 6, 2021 insurrection, but Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes is now facing federal charges of seditious conspiracy thanks to the U.S. Department of Justice. And Never Trump conservative George Conway, during a recent appearance on the Daily Beast’s podcast “The New Normal,” argued that the Garland DOJ’s January 6 investigation could lead to an indictment of former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and others.
Host Molly Jong-Fast asked Conway if he sees the Rhodes/Oath Keepers indictments as a sign of Garland “making a large case” against “people who are higher up on the food chain” — and the conservative attorney responded, “Yes, I think that is what’s going on. The question is: How far up the food chain do they go?.... I don’t think we can really answer that yet. This is the classic way that prosecutors deal with big events…. They work their way from the bottom up.”

Conway told Jong-Fast, “The Department of Justice is a big department, OK? And it’s got lots of people in it. It’s got many layers of management, and it takes a while sometimes to do things…. It would be nice if everything worked faster, but that’s just not realistic — particularly not in the era of COVID.”
The anti-Trump conservative also applauded House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s select committee on the January 6, 2021 insurrection, telling Jong-Fast, “They’re building a record that could be used by the Justice Department, and they could potentially change public sentiment or enlighten the public as to what happened here — and to make people understand that what happened here was not just some rowdy protest of limited import, but a very serious attempt to destroy the Constitution.”
