'Don't kid yourself': Rep. Crenshaw gets heckled by a fellow Republican for saying the election wasn't rigged

Nine months after now-President Joe Biden defeated former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, the Republican and many of his diehard supporters — including MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, attorney Lin Wood, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia — continue to promote the false and debunked conspiracy theory that the election was stolen. This week, conservative Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas encountered a strident supporter of the Big Lie when he was heckled during a GOP fundraiser in Rosemont, Illinois.

The heckler, journalist Justin Baragona reported in the Daily Beast, was Bobby Piton, who is seeking the Republican nomination in Illinois' 2022 U.S. Senate race. If Piton won the nomination, he would be competing with Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth in the general election. Piton, on July 24, had tweeted that Trump will "be back in the White House this year."

When Piton claimed that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, Crenshaw responded, "Don't kid yourself into believing that's why we lost. It's not." And Piton shot back, "You're wrong!"

When Crenshaw told him, "I'm not wrong," Piton insisted, "I have proof in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia."

The so-called "proof" that Piton was referring to was nonexistent "proof" that the election was stolen from Trump in those states as well as in Wisconsin and Michigan. Piton insisted, "It's gonna flip." But an obviously frustrated Crenshaw, pushing back against Piton's nonsense, matter-of-factly told him, "It won't. And you've gotta flip all five states…. I'm not gonna argue with you."

Following that exchange, Piton lambasted Crenshaw on Facebook, posting, "Crenshaw is so sanctimonious, cocky and represents one of many intellectually dishonest Congressmen in our party who don't care about FREEDOM and TRUTH! Liberty LOVING PATRIOTS in Texas need to find someone to jump in and PRIMARY CRENSHAW!.... TEXAS WAKE UP! You have serious work in store to unseat this dishonest and cocky Democrat operative Rep. Crenshaw."
