President Donald Trump is backing down from his support of bulked-up firearm background check legislation, clearly fearful of backlash from the National Rifle Association. And according to The Atlantic, Trump backed down after speaking on the phone to NRA Cheif Executive Wayne LaPierre.

CNN's Anderson Cooper mocked Trump's cowardice Tuesday night, pointing out that the president had pulled the same routine after the 2018 shooting in Parkland, Florida.

He also blasted Trump's blazing hypocrisy.

"The president made fun of congressional leaders, to their faces, saying they were afraid of the NRA, but the president wasn't, and he would take the heat after Parkland," Cooper said. "It's all just double talk. It's hard to say this, but the words of the president of the United States — I mean, do they have any meaning?"
