Former House Speaker Paul Ryan has apparently tried to give Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) some advice with her newfound office and fame.

According to the GazetteXtra, at an event in Janesville, Wisconsin, Ryan made the following remarks Tuesday night:

Asked about new and outspoken Democratic House member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ryan said he gave her tips about being a good member of Congress, and “I don’t think she really listened to a thing I said, you know, ‘just take it easy, just watch things for a while, …”

Of course, the idea that Ryan would give Ocasio-Cortez advice is laughable on its face. There are some superficial similarities between the two: They both rose to prominence in their parties at relatively young ages, drawing press attention with bold ideas and ideological passion. But Ryan's tenure in office is marked by a massive failure on the one issue he supposedly cared most about. He never repealed and replaced Obamacare. His sole major legislative achievement, 2017 tax reform, is a complete fraud. He resigned as House speaker and left his party to get clobbered in the 2018 midterms. He closed his eyes as President Donald Trump shattered countless norms he supposedly cared about. And he's become reviled on both the right and the left.

So naturally, Ryan's remarks about Ocasio-Cortez ignoring his advice inspired extensive snark:
