In May 2018, ABC cancelled the reboot of Roseanne Barr’s sitcom “Roseanne” after a racist tweet attacking former Barack Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett (who she compared to the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes”). But in a recent interview with the U.K.’s Sunday Times Magazine, Barr attributed the show’s cancellation to a combination of pressure from former First Lady Michelle Obama, anti-Semitism and sexism as well as her unapologetic support of President Donald Trump.

During the interview, Barr described her anti-Jarrett tweet as a “very stupid thing” and said that she posted it when she was in an “inebriated condition” because of a combination of Ambien and “a couple of beers.” Regardless, Barr still considers the cancelation of her show unfair.

Barr claimed that Michelle Obama encouraged Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment Group, to cancel “Roseanne” and went on to tell the Sunday Times Magazine that her critics “wanted to take a Jew down. They wanted to take down a Zionist because they think that Zionists are the problem with everything in the world, and a lot of people in this country think like them.”

Barr added that her critics also “hate powerful women,” especially those who support Trump. Describing Trump as a “genius” and a “deep thinker,” Barr asserted that if 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton considers her “deplorable,” she is proud to call herself that.

“Deplorable is the greatest thing Hillary ever called us because it empowered a revolution,” Barr told the Sunday Times Magazine. “We are deplorable to her kind. Of course, all working-class people are deplorable to her because it was working-class people that elected Trump.”
