Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen will plead guilty to lying to Congress, testify against Trump: report

On Thursday, ABC's George Stephanopoulos reported that President Donald Trump's former personal attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, will accept a plea bargain from Special Counsel Robert Mueller for lying to Congress — and is prepared in exchange to offer "dozens of hours of testimony" that could implicate Trump in wrong-doing.

Earlier this year, Special Counsel Robert Mueller handed off evidence against Cohen in connection with his illegal $130,000 hush payment to porn star Stormy Daniels to prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

This separate investigation led to Cohen pleading guilty to eight counts of fraud, tax evasion, and criminal violations of campaign finance law — but in declining to prosecute the matter himself, Mueller created the impression Cohen was not particularly relevant or useful to the Russia investigation. The first hint that there might be more to the story came in September, when a report revealed Cohen was in talks with Mueller.

Trump has increasingly been lashing out at the Mueller investigation, calling it an "illegal Joseph McCarthy style Witch Hunt" that has "shattered so many innocent lives."
