Judge Rules It's Unconstitutional for Trump to Block Critics On Twitter

A U.S. district judge on Wednesday ruled that President Donald Trump’s blocking of critics on Twitter is unconstitutional.

The decision came as part of a lawsuit filed by the Knight Institute, which represented a group of Twitter users blocked by Trump’s personal Twitter account.

Former White House communications director Hope Hicks, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and White House director of social media Dan Savino were also named in the suit.

“This case requires us to consider whether a public official may, consistent with the First Amendment, ‘block’ a person from his Twitter account in response to the political views that person has expressed, and whether the analysis differs because that public official is the President of the United States,” Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald wrote. “The answer to both questions is no.”
