Dick Durbin Nails Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen for Misremembering Trump's 'Sh*thole' Remark

News & Politics

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) grilled the U.S. Department of Homeland Security chief Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday about President Donald Trump’s racist remarks about immigration.

“Things were said at that meeting we have to address,” Durbin said during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Durbin has accused Trump describing Haiti and African countries as “sh*tholes” during a White House meeting about immigration policy last week. Nielsen, who was also at the meeting, has said she didn’t hear Trump use that language.

During the hearing, Nielsen told Durbin she had heard “general profanity” and “rough talk” during the meeting.

Durbin noted that Nielsen had told Fox News she heard Trump use “strong language.”

“What was that language?” he asked.

“Uh, apologies, I don’t remember specific words,” she replied.
