CNN's Don Lemon briefly dissolved into laughter as he explained the bizarre show of effusive praise Republicans heaped on President Donald Trump after passing the tax cut bill on Wednesday.
“There was a festival of flattery on the White House lawn today to celebrate the passage of the Republican tax cut bill,” Lemon said.
After playing a clip, he couldn't hold back the chuckles any longer.
“Oh my god, is that SNL?” Lemon said. “Is that real? Complimenting President Trump has become something of a ritual at the White House, but have other presidents expected such praise?”
Lemon brought on two historians to discuss the Republicans' behavior and satirize the GOP's genuflection during their introduction.
“By the way, you gentlemen look so handsome. You’re such fantastic historians. I am just honored to be on television with you.”
The historians compare the Republicans' display to "a scene from The Godfather" and "the Nixon tapes."
