Watch: Colbert Makes It Hilariously Clear He Won't Cave to Threats to Make 'Every Critic... Bow Down to President Trump'
Amid worries of a cabinet of deplorables (from Chris Christie to Rudy Giuliani to Ben Carson to a climate-denying head of the EPA transition), "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert shared another concern to prepare for with the new president-elect Donald Trump on Thursday night.
Trump's director of African-American outreach (yes, Colbert joked, Trump had African-American outreach—and hiring Omarosa Marigault was the sum of his work in that respect), Omarosa, made a threatening statement when Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham refused to endorse Trump: "It's so great our enemies are making themselves clear so that when we get in to the White House, we know where we stand."
She continued, "I would never judge anybody for exercising their right to and the freedom to choose who they want. But let me just tell you, Mr. Trump has a long memory and we're keeping a list."
"Wow, an enemies list," Colbert marveled. "They went from zero to Nixon in no time flat," he quipped with a snap of his fingers.
As one of the self-described "people in late-night have said one or two things that were critical of Donald Trump," Colbert said "surely" he can be forgiven because "that was just in the heat of the election."
But Colbert's doubts were countered with a clip of Omarosa in a sit-down interview outlining a Trump administration's "vindictive predator" plan to, as she said, make sure "every critic, every detractor will have to bow down to President Trump... It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe," she said confidently and with a smile.
Colbert got close to the camera and delivered a panicked speech about how "It was Sam Bee and Seth Meyers!" who were critical of Trump. "All hail our glorious leader! Giant hands! You've got giant hands!"
He backed off and just before you could feel the disappointment in the comedian, he nailed the punchline: "...Is what a pussy would say."
Stay strong, Colbert... we need you in these dark times to stay on point!
