Newt Gingrich Loses It on Fox News over Trump Sex Allegations, Accuses Megyn Kelly of Being 'Fascinated with Sex'
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich accused Fox News host Megyn Kelly of being “fascinated with sex” after she suggested Donald Trump’s poll numbers have been dragged down by allegations of sexual assault, harassment and impropriety.
Gingrich, who has essentially served as a Trump surrogate, was clearly unhappy with the direction of the interview from the start. Kelly opened by citing “many nonpartisan, independent pollsters” who have concluded the numbers are in Hillary Clinton’s favor.
“If Donald Trump loses the White House race and the Republicans lose the Senate,” Kelly asked Gingrich, “does that suggest that the Republicans nominated the wrong candidate?”
The two verbally jousted from there, with Gingrich dismissing the polls and maintaining that Trump could still finish ahead. Things took a particularly rough turn when Kelly began recounting the arc of the campaign over the last few weeks. Gingrich exploded when the host touched on the leaked Access Hollywood video featuring Trump bragging about grabbing women by the genitals, as well as the 11 women who have since accused the candidate of sexual abuse.
“I’m sick and tired of people like you using language that’s inflammatory that’s not true,” Gingrich stated, pointing at Kelly. Later he told the host, “You are fascinated with sex and you don’t care about public policy.”
“You know what, Mr. Speaker? I’m not fascinated by sex. But I am fascinated by the protection of women and understanding what we’re getting in the Oval Office,” Kelly retorted.
Gingrich pivoted, bringing up the sex scandals of Bill Clinton—who, for the record, is not currently running for president. After giving a little speech about who exactly is on the top of the November ballot, Kelly bid Gingrich a special adieu, sending him off with a tidbit of advice: “You can take your anger issues and spend some time working on them, Mr. Speaker.”
Earlier this month, Gingrich said, "there’s a big Trump and a little Trump," and called the latter "frankly pathetic."
