Katrina Pierson's Insane Spin on the Dallas Morning News Clinton Endorsement

Election '16

Trump national spokesperson Katrina Pierson trashed the Dallas Morning News Wednesday, insisting the historically conservative paper is "liberal" after its editorial board opted to endorse Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Asked what the Trump campaign is going to do about the endorsement, Pierson told Fox's Maria Baritomo, "nothing."

“We just acknowledge that the Dallas Morning News is a liberal paper," Pierson added.

“The reason why they have supported Republicans is because that’s the establishment in the state of Texas,” Pierson said. “And this is just an effort to continue to try to turn Texas blue. And it’s just not going to work.”

In a historic move, the Dallas Morning News editorial board endorsed Clinton, arguing “resume vs. resume, judgment, this election is no contest.”

The decision is a first for the paper in nearly 20 elections. As the editorial board writes, they did not come to the decision lightly, noting the paper’s “values are more about individual liberty, free markets and a strong national defense” than Democratic ideals of social justice issues.

Still, as the editors note, “unlike Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton has experience in actual governance, a record of service and a willingness to delve into real policy.” The editorial lists her tenure as a senator and secretary of state as evidence of Clinton’s governing success.

Yesterday, the Dallas Morning News set the stage for its endorsement of Clinton, publishing a scathing editorial that questioned Trump’s conservative credentials. "Trump is—or has been—at odds with nearly every GOP ideal this newspaper holds dear,” yesterday’s editorial read.

Today’s endorsement comes with some caveats about Clinton’s honesty and judgment, and in the paper's opinion, a “willingness to shade the truth.” But it also notes Clinton’s opponents “refuse to see anything but conspiracies and cover-ups” and argues despite Clinton’s shortcomings, she will prove a “competent experienced president.”
